Taking a break from my Call of Duty Axis MOCs to show off some other creations I've made. I've seen a couple of Smuggler Intercept customs in the last few weeks, so I figured I'd showcase mine. Here is some backstory to my build:
"As the war against the Covenant raged on, UNSC warships and ONI Prowlers were becoming a limited, but ever important resource. Although the Covenant were the primary enemies of the war, the UNSC was still fighting a second front against the Human Insurrection. Creative solutions were needed to continue clandestine operations against targets in insurrectionist-controlled territory, without the firepower of a UNSC warship or the stealth capabilities of an ONI Prowler. Enter the ONI- Insurrectionist Insertion Ship, also known as the Silverback.
Nicknamed for the silver-colored titanium plates used to re-enforce the spine of the vessel, This ONI ship is a modified Bactrian-class freighter, still in use by outer-world colonists and insurrectionists alike. Careful planning to maintain the ship's cross-section allows it's radar signature to match to the Bactrian-class freighter by 98%. This allows the ship to slip-space jump into insurrectionist territory uncontested, insert a two-person special operations team (ODSTs, Spartan-IIs, Spartan-III Headhunters, etc.) via SOEIV drop pods, and jump away, with before any insurrectionist radar operator could recognize the threat.
Speed is this ship's main defense; its been upgraded with two nuclear fusion engines, sourced from the Open Frame 92 (A.K.A. - Booster Frame). In case the ship needs to fight it's way out, it is also equipped with two 80mm Ball-Mounted Rotary Cannons for self-defense."
When I first picked up this set, I increased the cockpit size to hold two figures and transformed the cargo bay into a troop carrier. I noticed how the cargo container was roughly the same length as a drop pod and started to think about how I could incorporate drop pods into the build. After some tinkering with a pod deployment system, I figured out a design that I was happy with. There's no photo magic in the pics; the drop pod doors are actually being held up by the large arms, sourced from the Kodiak siege cannon set. Separate from the cockpit, the fuselage was lengthened to a proportion that could accommodate two individuals. I imagined this as a sort of waiting area before boarding the drop pods. I hope to make this a functional area in the future.
