Call me retro or old fashioned, or even just old, but while I admired many of the design details of MB's latest Warthog and love the color, I didn't love the build... In either mode. Mega Bloks has had the iconic Warthog pretty much dialed since the 2011 "UNSC Rocket Hog vs (Covenant) AA Gun set " This new blank sheet redesign to create a "convertible" 'Hog just seemed a bit too busy looking to me and I missed the working suspension of all past Warthog designs. Hey I'm not being a hater and if you love the new Warthog in stock form, Awesome. But I prefer it old-school.
Well it so happens that we had a surplus example of the Target exclusive blue Rocket 'Hog from a few years back. I decided to sacrifice it, recycling its black chassis parts. I would base my rebuild on the original Bungie penned Halo CE/2/3 'Hog design. The parts selection from the new set combined with my inventory of stealth/steel blue camo spares didn't quite equip me to perfectly replicate the old Rocket Hog and blue Target exclusive 'Hog, but I'm happy with the result. You have to look really closely to see where I was forced to improvise and the resulting build is totally stable.
I decided not to go with either of the Dual Mode 'Hog's stock weapon options. I don't think this latest take on the Warthog's Gauss cannon or missile rack looked quite as good as past versions. I had a spare missile launcher left from our multi set rebuild of the Mammoth a few years ago and the colors work perfectly. Now our fictional Spec-War unit, Team Nightshade: can count a Rocket 'Hog among its vehicles.
