Hey its been awhile but I'm back with some great pics of the latest MCX Halo set to hit stores and a few simple mods that really "ice the cake". Those of you with well stocked spare parts bins can totally manage this. But first, props to the MCX design team for yet another great model of a Warthog variant. Second, props to 343 for providing us an evolution of the iconic Warthog that is still recognizably just that and actually looks pretty freakin' awesome! I immediately loved the appearance of this model upon first seeing the box art. I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit the I haven't been keeping up with the latest Halo Infinite trailers and beta gameplay videos though- so I didn't even know the Razorback was officially a thing!
After finally putting my hands on two sets at our local TRU (and cancelling my tardy Amazon Canada pre-orders!), I knocked the two sets together simultaneously. The stock build reminded me a lot of the MCX HW2 Forge 'Hog build. Both models are really innovative and intricate small vehicle builds that manage to completely capture the appearance of the in-game vehicle. Again, way to go MCX design team! My only initial critique of the Razorback immediately after building it was with the number of exposed studs at the rear of the build- something easily remedied. But before I started mucking about, I Googled some reference pics...
Well it turns out that the design team cheated the vehicle's tailgate design too. In the reference pics **the tailgate actually incorporates two steps** So as you can see from my Before and After pics, I sorted out the tailgate and then replaced plates with tiles down either side of the pick-up truck box and on the dashboard beneath the windscreen. I also added a couple of black 1x1 tiles to hide the stud under the red e-brake handle and another on the T-top crossbar just to prove I'm every bit as obsessive as always- LOL! Finally I added a few drivetrain details to the underside of the vehicle. The trick new independently-sprung suspension design leaves the area behind the wheel wells too empty looking otherwise.
Hope you all like. Let me know what you think of both the stock Razorback model and my handful of mods.
