This Gallery post focuses in on some of the more notable details of my latest build.
The first collage is of me prototyping a new game accurate nose, the finished nose, and the cockpit interior for the H3 Pelican. One of the primary motivators for me building this model was problems with this area of both the stock models and my prior Halo 3 rebuild attempt.
The 2nd collage is of the tail boom and rear thrusters. Things of particular note are the the correct triangular cross section of the rear thrusters, the custom VTOL thrust ports, and the fully detailed underside of the tail boom.
The 3rd collage is of the troop bay hatch opening and the rear AIE-486H Heavy Machine Gun deploying from the roof on its swing-down mount. So far none of the rear hatch designs on stock MB Pelicans have been all that great. This wider two part hatch represents a pretty huge improvement. As MB hasn't made an official model of the AIE-468 mini-gun, I made a custom shorter barrel with its flash suppressor cowling to suit.
the 4th and final collage is of the troop bay interior. Unfortunately its not currently possible to replicate the cavernous troop bay of a properly to scale Pelican in Mega Bloks. The cockpit canopy is simply too small to look right on a (really big!) 28" long model. However my stretched troop bay does offer seating for six and overhead grab rails for another four troopers without getting too snug. In addition to the bulkhead mounted weapon rack at the font of the troop bay, there are game accurate overhead bins above the seating which accommodate packs and weapons. While its a bit difficult to make out, in the second pic you see a med pack and the game accurate offset doorway into the cockpit on the forward bulkhead.
Well that's it. I hope you enjoyed and please make a point of leaving a comment one way or the other.
