Hello, everyone!
It took me over a year, but I have finally built my own Mega Construx UNSC Mastodon!
First of all, I have to admit that I had no idea this could be made until I saw some other builders making their own Mastodons over here, and over a year ago I played with the idea of building one for my own, but a year ago I didn’t have the pieces or the experience to build a consistent vehicle, besides that I had a prototype vehicle I was looking forward to finish, but I had been procrastinating it for most of that year.
A couple of months ago, I wanted to move on to other projects, but I just couldn’t leave this custom alone, so I went back at it, and now that I had the experience, and the pieces for it, I salvaged everything that worked and went back at it!
This custom took a huge toll on my spare parts; it has pieces of a UNSC Wolverine (the Covert Ops, to be specific), a Designer Series UNSC Scorpion Tank, a chunk of pieces from those 480 or 790 pieces boxes, and other spare parts I took from other sets (like the jerry cans, or the exhaust pieces on the back).
I’m definitely sticking to this custom, but out of curiosity, I went and tried to count how many pieces this vehicle could possibly have (I’m an engineer, I just can’t help it!). I counted around 769 pieces, but this doesn’t count interior pieces, so in total I calculate it holds over 880 pieces total, making this a very hard, sturdy, and heavy vehicle.
Once I actually finished I actually realized that I managed to make it up to a scale that has me very satisfied. It can comfortably hold up to 10 figures (and maybe a few more), and the driver. The vehicle’s top can be opened quite easily to accommodate stuff in it, that was part design, and part luck!
I also paid a lot of attention to the firing ports, as well as working hatches which ended better than I expected. The same day I finished this vehicle I immediately took it out because I really needed to see it on the field, those are the last two pictures.
I hope you enjoy the story, the result, as well as inspire you to follow your dreams and try to make them possible… even if that takes over 800 of your spare Mega Construx pieces!
