The Alien Queen was super fun to develop, not only because we are huge fans of the Alien franchise, but because it was challenging on so many levels.
New special parts where created for this amazing set (Head, Jaw and Hands) to give her the authentic look. Our working models use parts we have available, but that in most cases don’t have the same colors. This will help us validate the feeling and the functionality as close as possible to the final product.
We did multiple passes until the structure, the look, and the play pattern were overall correct. The first pass had even more articulations and fine details (like knee articulation and the “high heel” detail on the feet), but this created several issues to the structure, like giving the need for a support to make her stand. We wanted to create a toy that the fans will love, but that younger audiences will be able to play with frustration-free. So, compromises were made to have the Queen stand by herself, so she can be displayed with more freedom.
