After much deliberation, I decided to buy two Pelican Inbound sets to try and customize a single pelican into a semi game accurate interior and exterior.
I knew from my research of the original set that the interior was small due to the clutter on the walls and the landing gear mechanism.
To the credit of the designers, the original was a treat to build, but as a fan of the series, I wanted to see a troop bay with Spartans in it, so I set to work deepening and widening the troop bay by moving the hinges, two studs outwards towards the wings and restructuring the roof a bit on the outside to accommodate as well as “sculpting out” two 2x4 areas from the initial cockpit section behind the pilots for the troop bay. I also moved the interior mechanism of the landing gear to the roof, and shortened it a bit by replacing the 1x6 technic beam with 1x5 from an old Warthog to be able to space out the seats inside. The result was a bay that could fit 6 seats, 3 on each side spaced in-between 4 studs wide.
In addition, I added a second Anvil Missle pod to each wing, restructured the cockpit to add a co-pilot seat and the troop bay door since the bay was wider and added some Ordnance Pods from the Warthog Resistance set to the back.
The set has a great scale and playability by maintaining most of the original build.
Anyways, thanks for taking a look, please enjoy the photos. Hope I can help inspire other builders!
