Multiverse RP

As cool as the multiverse idea is, it's a bit nebulous for an RP setting. What's the actual storyline? What's the conflict or motivation for players and characters?

I've played a lot of RPs on different sites, and more specifically, I've seen a fair few RPs fail on this site because they weren't fleshed out enough from the outset. I feel like there needs to be a clearer idea of what this game is going to entail, for it to work successfully.

How travel through the multi verse works:

You open a portal through use of strange powers only the creators possess...
Then, you jump through it.
You will find yourself in the hub, where you have to find the portal to your destination.
Then, you jump through that one too, and voilà: you have broken every law of space, time, and physics.
