I was just thinking of how efficient it would be to have the Assassin go after the Elite, and I realized the answer is quite; Shields in Halo tend to be quite week to melee weapons such as blades and knives, and since Assassins specialize in those as well as stealth, they'd be the perfect adversary to the Elites.
