The covenant had raided a unsc ship which dropped out of slipspace. After an ai named sif alerted oni and an oni spook set a trap for the covenant were the first covenant was killed by sgt Johnson. The covenant arrived to harvest after the unsc proposed a trading meeting where the covenant were only intrested in the relics on harvest. Everything was calm but then a grunt shot osmo a member of colonial militia. After that the covenant sent a team to look for relics which resulted in a firefight which led the covenant retreating to their ships. After that the prophets declared humanity as an affront to there gods

The Prophets already knew humanity was decended in some way from the forerunners, and knowing them existing would threaten the Covenant, they faced the humans as defilers and betrayers of the Forerunners
