Recently found five Marine Defense packs on clearance for 50% off IRL so I immediately grabbed them for my new collection. Not really the biggest fan of the faces or helmets on the originals (pic 7) so I redid all of my marines. They don't have as many new paint apps as Stacker(pic 5) or the spartans because I felt I went a bit overboard with them.
I also originally intended to split my marines as 3 African American, 3 Hispanic, and 4 Caucasian (10 marines unfortunately does not divide evenly by three), but after I finished the Hispanic marines, I realized that the paint I had mixed actually was an identical color match to my IRL Caucasian skin and the Caucasian paint I mixed (that was closer to what MCX uses for their plastic, pic 6) just looked too pale and sickly. So, I ended up with 7 Caucasian marines and only three African American marines. It's not the diversity mix I would like, but I don't feel like stripping the paint on two marines to fix it.
I also decided to do gloss orange for the goggles instead of metallic gold because I felt that was closer to the Marines from Halo 3.
Three "marines" aren't canon to the game, but I felt the armor should have been. The two gloveless marines are just a neat variation, and the third one isn't actually a marine. Navy Hospital Corpsmen are in Halo 3, but they wear standard marine armor. I decided to change that and gave mine some simple medic logos.
For those who have followed my customs for years across both of my Fan Gallery accounts, these guys may remind you of the 37th Marine Battalion from four years ago. The notable difference is the lack of weathering and the lack of a unit patch on the left shoulder.
