*screech*
My 'hog stopped abruptly to the sounds of someone saying "Halt!"
I kept the lights on, and peered through the windshield. "Yes sir?" I replied.
"Get outta that car with your hands in the air, these are private UNSC grounds."
"You got it it sir." I screamed inside my head because well, I am an infamous Insurrectionist. And It doesn't matter how many times I do this for my team, I get scared every time.
The Marines peered under their goggles, one said to the other, "Isn't that one of the Innies from the South Bank raid?"
"Looks like it Jim." The other replied. "Hold it right there." Tom continued.
"I hope I'm not causing too much trouble." I said out loud.
"You stupid or something? You're an Innie, of course you knew you're causing trouble."
"Well-" I started.
"Stow it",Jim cut in. "You've hurt a lot of people, and for that, I think it's alright that we don't report you in."
"What're you talking about?" Tom asked.
"There's no need to report a dead body we found."
I knew I was in trouble. The Marine was right. I've hurt a lot of people, so I knew I wouldn't be getting any sympathy from the other Marine. My only hope was to keep them talking long enough for my team to save me.
"So uh, you guys like jazz?"
They both stared at me in silence. No doubt questioning my sanity.
"You realize the situation you're in right?" Tom asked.
"Innie's too dumb to realize anything it seems." Jim replied. "But uh, yeah. I love jazz."
Jim shifted uneasily. This Innie was acting weird. Normal people don't try to start up a conversation when you threaten to kill them. But Jim was a UNSC Marine, and this was an Insurrectionist. Neither of them were normal people.
Tom turned to Jim. "Really? I always thought you were a hardcore country fan?"
"I can like more than one thing Tom!" Jim snapped back.
This was good. Getting the Marines to fight each other would give Vera more time to get in place. But she sure was taking her sweet time. I'll have to get her back after I make it out of here alive.
If I make it out of here alive.
"Ya know, I'm a pretty big country fan myself." I stated.
"Really?" Jim asked "Tom here keeps making fun of me for liking old timey bumpkin music."
"I uh, never said that." Tom fought back.
"Uh, you totally did."
It was moments like these that always make it hard to be an Insurrectionist. Moments like these make you realize that you're fighting against real humans. Humans like you. It also makes me realize what an absolute monster I am for everything I've done.
"I'll have you know, that the amazing classics from 2035 aren't just some-" Jim stopped abruptly.
"Aren't just some what?" Tom asked, right before Jim fell in the dirt face-first.
"What the?!" Tom started, right before receiving the same fate.
"Man, those guys have some big mouths for sentries." My partner Vera Custer emerged from the shadows. "Good thing you know how to keep people busy."
"Let's this over with..." I pleaded.
"Pft, sure." Vera said.
And that was a short story about Slab. Thanks for reading if you did. If you didn't, I don't blame you it's kinda long for a post description.
