Who here remembers this? Ok, most sets didn’t require a folding table AND a card table, but even something small like a Warthog required dumping multiple bags out before building, then picking through anywhere from a half dozen to a dozen piles of pieces to find the right one. Once you became familiar which each pile and the pieces that were in it the process became a good deal quicker and easier.
Of course, this was also long before I ever knew of or had started knolling. Now each time I empty a bag I flip, sort, organize and nicely lay out all the pieces from the each bag I’m going to be working with in neat orderly rows and columns. Takes a little while but it’s…calming, it’s part of the build. A ritual, of sorts. Also it dramatically cuts down on time spent searching for pieces which you build each step.
Would I have taken the time to knoll out all the pieces in all the bags in something like the Scarab set however? Eh…no, almost definitely not. The Vulture, maybe.
I want the Signature Series Forward Unto Dawn more than anything. It is my holy grail of collecting. Yet all those unnumbered bags are already giving me anxiety :p
