I've been looking to grow my flood army a bit so I decided to do something a bit different than the usual human, elite, carrier. Although we don't see this in the games I figured the idea was at least plausible.
The sculpting process began much like my old flood marines: I first made casts of the front and back of the armor as well as the head, then built up around the neck peg and attached the head at an angle. I decided to have the jackal's mouth open instead of closed as I thought that would make it look a bit more creepy, so I cast the top and bottom of the jackal head separately then glued the bottom jaw in place. The arm was made with a cast of most of the figure's arm with a shoulder joint glued in place since I can't clone those, followed by the flood claw things.
The paint was pretty straightforward. I matched the figure's skin tone and feathers and then blended in the yellowish flood color while the flood infector pod and claws were made entirely that color. After all the details were done I gave it a black wash and followed up with a matte clear coat.
So there it is, the flood infected jackal. I think he turned out alright. As usual there are a couple in progress photos since I remembered to take some. Maybe I'll do a grunt next.
