Gentlemen, this the UNSC "Pack Mule" and if my middle aged brain remains at all reliable, only the second or third Halo themed custom I had created at that point (Jan/Feb 2013). So if it doesn't seem quite as polished as my more recent work, well a 40 year sabbatical from brick building would explain it- LOL!
Back then Gremlin sets were plentiful and so a bunch of builders on the SBF and the BF were building custom troop and cargo haulers based on the Gremlin chassis. This was my take on that idea. I won't claim it was the best but it was a competent build with several unique features. Now the Gremlin was never a pretty vehicle and it was another year or two and many custom builds later that I came up with a better grill, headlight, and roo guard design. But even then my builds were about the details...
- So I took the rather unlikely hinged canopy and folding bumper/headlight assembly and added access steps for the now offset driver position.
- I "blinged out" the exterior with tool mounts, grab handles, high-gain aerials, a spare tire, and engine compartment vents.
- Then I detailed the interior spaces with gun racks, first aid kit, and (snug) seating for 8 troops besides the driver.
- And the interior detail I was most proud of was the front-most trooper seat. It folded open to become the platform the trooper stood on to man the rooftop machine gun.
- I suppose the final thing to point out was that even then, my custom builds featured next-to-no exposed studs.
Well I hope you enjoyed this little trip into the way back machine. Since this effort I have created 70+ more Halo themed customs or extensive rebuilds of stock sets. If you like what you see here please check out my other builds, most of which have been uploaded into the MBC gallery here.
