Do you remember the rest of this story? No? Go back and read it then! Otherwise, this will seem morbid/strange.
The two soldiers walked through the zoo. Everything seemed normal, well as normal as mutated plants could be.
Meanwhile...
The group wove in between the large plants that had grown up in the zoo. Occasionally, Netgaris would make them stop so he could listen for the two soldiers. Normally he would just continue, but occasionally, he made them change course to avoid a run-in.
Eventually they came to a staircase that led them to the top of the outer wall. They ascended and attempted to find a place to exit.
Meanwhile...
The pair of commandos shifted a plant out of the way. Once moved, they were in clear view of the outer wall. They could see some mutants on the top. The tattooed one hailed the Captain, “Ma’am, we have eyes on five mutants. They look sentient.” The captain replied, “I’m moving to your position. I want to reap as much glory from this capture as possible! Approach with caution, but don’t lose them.” The commando said, “Yes ma’am,” and the two moved to intercept.
Later...
Grub pointed to an emergency ladder ahead, “Look!” This ladder led down the side of the wall and to freedom beyond. “Good find! We will be out of here before you can say...”
“FREEZE!”
They all jumped and turned slowly to face the voice. Standing there was a shorter soldier in armor and the two other soldiers, Mark and Harry. The armored one saw Tan eyeing the ladder, and warned, “Don’t try to escape. We will kill you.” She gazed at Netgaris for a moment and said, “Netgaris? Is that really you?” Netgaris sighed, “Do you know any other hooded, tentacle-faced mutants?” Armor replied, “No, but your kind are a dime a dozen. It wouldn’t surprise me if another one of you is out there.” Netgaris said, “On that, we agree.”
“What you do to us?!” Tan squeaked. “Well,” Armor began, “You will be taken to labor camps, where you will spend the rest of your miserable lives. Except for your dark friend here, who is too dangerous to be left alive. He will be executed.” Flig stepped in front of Netgaris, “You can’t do that!” Armor laughed, “I can, and I will.”
Grub looked at Netgaris, “Can we do anything?” Netgaris stared back at him. Grub couldn’t tell, but the hooded figure’s yellow eyes looked... sad. “Yes, I can do something, but it would be rather extreme.” Grub said, “Well this seem like extreme time.” Netgaris nodded slowly. He whispered to the monkeys, “Close your eyes, and no matter what you hear, or how bad you want to open them, do not open the until I say. Do you understand?” The monkeys nodded. Netgaris wasn’t satisfied. “Promise me,” he pleaded. They promised, and he told them to step back.
Netgaris stepped forward and the soldiers trained their guns on him. The monkeys closed their eyes and, as promised, did not open them. Netgaris raised his hands and said, “Don’t shoot. I will come peacefully, but first...”
Netgaris removed his hood, and upon seeing his face, all three USRC soldiers cried out in agony. Crunching and cracking noises sounded as well. They continued to scream until one by one, they all fell silent. Netgaris put his hood back up. He turned to the monkeys and said, “You can open your eyes now. It is done.” The monkeys slowly opened their eyes, and were disgusted by what they saw. The soldiers were lying on the ground, horribly disfigured and broken. The last looks on their faces were that of pain and fear. Netgaris said, “Viewing my face causes any organic beings to die a horrible, painful death. Very few know of this power, for it is not one that I enjoy sharing. I would understand if you wish to leave me, for your own safety.”
Grub stared at the bodies a while longer and then said, “You kidding? You the best bodyguard ever! Nobody can hurt us now!” The rest of the monkeys seemed to agree, which made Netgaris stand taller, “Well then! We should get to work on the sanctuary for Mutant animals! Unless you are opposed.” The monkeys began chattering together and following Netgaris to the ladder.
Grub realized that he had found his tribe. He couldn’t wait to lead them to great things, and with Netgaris as their guide and protector, things didn’t seem to scary after all.
