Making this post in advance of the gallery post about it.
Anyone else use fabric in their customs? This is the forum to discuss tips and tricks for using fabric. I kind of have to up the bar again for making customs because everyone has gotten so good at painting and kitbashing since I originally left.
Disclaimer: Be an adult or have your parents work with fabric, because you have a risk of gluing your fingers together or sticking yourself with a needle and thread if you aren't wearing a thimble. For larger projects, you also have a risk of getting caught in a sewing machine, even if you're being careful. Trust me on this, it happened to an IRL buddy of mine and he got quite hurt.
Here's a few tips:
* Use Microfiber (like screen cloth)
* Microfiber can be dyed with acrylic waterbased paint, but it gains rigidity
* Microfiber is hard to cut without extremely sharp scissors
* Microfiber MUST be sealed in some way on its edges to prevent fraying.
* For gluing fabric together, less is more and only cyanoacrylate works
* For sewing, use 100-200 stitches per inch of a thin diameter thread.
* Making sleeves is done exactly the same way that making sleeves for an actual shirt is done
