Many things don't make too much sense in sci-fi, however I'd wager that the in-Universe reason for such a vehicle is practicality. Less armour makes the warthog cheaper, but also lighter, and therefore faster whilst using up less fuel. It is technically a scouting vehicle. This view makes sense when you consider the Scorpions are actually the spine of a heavy assault, and the only times we see warthogs in action are for rapid, assaults that require good mobility and speed. There is also the matter of desperation. Humanity is slowly running out of resources, men, and armaments. Seeing as the Warthog is basically a cheap, light vehicle, we can wager that they were far easier to produce alongside Mongeese than say, a vehicle like the Forgehog.

And yes @TacticalSponge, I do understand the concept of BALANCE, but it’s impractical if it were reality. I’m not trying to be rude, tone doesn’t come across in typing.

well have you ever seen a Humvee without armor and doors? you don't seem to have a problem with that. but yeah it does not really make sense. the only thing that does is the Gatling gun

Yeah it doesn't make much practical sense, but multiplayer would be a lot less fun if you could never shoot people out of vehicles.
