He started his work at ONI as a volunteer having been an excellent soldier in the Marines. He worked with Vanessa for a few years until he learned that, although he was faithful to his work, ONI was spying on him as if he were a traitor. At first he blamed Vanessa that she was the culprit, but she was never part of this espionage and did not even know that they were spying on him.
From there he retired from ONI and began working as a special operations soldier at Echo base in Reach where he was working until after Lucas' betrayal, he decided to return to work at ONI to help his former partner review the case of the because Lucas turned rebellious but they didn't find anything. During the year before Reach's invasion, he was training a pair of Spartans for special ops in a group that he named Delta Squad.
In Reach's invasion he and Vanessa were evacuating Sword base employees and classified documents to bring them to earth.
Some time after Reach's invasion he stayed on earth with his partner in Mombasa to continue his work, although now the Covenant is invading Mombasa. The rest you will see for yourself.
