Any advice on muzzle flare edits?

Besides obviously making the muzzle flare bigger, should I do anything with opacity or anything else really? I just want advice before I fully integrate them into my comics and such.

What I usually do is try to keep the actual flare relevant to the weapon. If it fires a higher caliber projectile (DMR or sniper rifle), you'd want it to be bigger and more aggressive. If the projectiles are smaller (like an AR or SMG), keep them small. And obviously this picture is exaggerated, but keep the flashes small, they aren't too big IRL.
