After a long absence of general release, and a far longer hiatus from being its own product, the Ghost returns to the WW...er, the Halo Mega Bloks universe in top form. The Rapid Attack Covenant Ghost is a bit bulkier than the last outing (as a pack-in for Battlescape II), but still passes muster as a light assault vehicle and comes in at a great bargain for the $12.99 price-point kit of the Spring 2014 line.
Longtime collectors will note that there isn't much to the Ghost that hasn't been refined or perfected over the past decade of Mega Bloks releases - the forward engine blocks on click pins, the 1-stud-wide saddle for quick mount and dismount by Micro Action Figures, and so on. The three new touches the Rapid Attack Ghost brings to the table are tiny things - the front-mounted plasma cannons molded in a new translucent blue (with painted-over effects), the foot pedals for added MAF rider stability, and three columns of "hoverbits" to not only float the Ghost freely, but facilitate smooth gliding over bricks, carpet, etc. that just couldn't be done with old Ghosts' reliance on a single 2x3 "hoverbrick."
Just as the Ghost is a re-imagined classic in this release, so too are the two included MAFs new molds packing classic weapons. The white H4 Elite Zealot strikes a commanding figure from the Ghost's saddle, brandishing one of the new hot pink Plasma Swords, while a Covert Ops Spartan Recruit stands ready to intercept him with a Spartan Laser.
There is only one disappointment to be had with the Ghost, and that is major retailers being flooded with too many over-ordered, undersold UNSC Cryo Bays to order/stock Ghosts in their place. If you can find it, though, I highly recommend buying in bulk to fill out your Covenant forces - they've been hurting for vehicle releases in the wake of the Fall 2013 line.
