The Warthog Run was one of the most anticipated Mega Construx sets in a while, and for a number of reasons.
Halo Heroes Series 5 released in 2017 with the 10th Anniversary of Halo 3, and many collectors such as myself were greatly looking forward to grabbing Master Chief and the Arbiter. Unfortunately, despite how many times we checked the stores, the series never turned up.
It's no secret that Halo Heroes Series 5 had some major distribution issues, and that left many of us disappointed. Making a Master Chief custom was fairly simple, just paint a Mark VI Spartan green. But the Arbiter, with his exclusive mold, was very difficult to make unless you were highly skilled with customs. And even the custom Master Chiefs, for many of us, weren't quite as satisfactory as getting the real thing.
And so began a long journey, where we fans suggested countless sets to have Halo 3 Master Chief and the Arbiter in. For two years we suggested set ideas, rereleases, and so on and so forth - all for nothing.
Or so we thought.
Mega Construx is particularly good at listening to the community, so lo and behold - 2019 brought us the Warthog Run. Finally we would have that chance we had dreamed of, to get those figures we wanted! And so we did.
But on top of the journey to Warthog Run, it is a special set in more ways than just that.
Halo 3 is a special game for all of us, in different ways for each. I know it holds a special place in my heart, and I know it does in yours - whatever the reason is, we all love that game. And Warthog Run caters perfectly to that Halo 3 nostalgia. Alongside that, Warthog Run caters to the nostalgia of us long-time collectors, and brings us back to the original days of Halo Mega Bloks.
Warthog Run arriving on my doorstep was the most excited I've been to recieve a package in a long time. When I opened that box, I felt like I was in Toys-R-Us again, ten years ago. Running excitedly through the Mega Bloks isle, looking at the Warthogs, the Banshees, the Pelican. I had never even played Halo at that point, but I had sure seen Assault on Squad 45 - and I wanted every part of that.
The return to the original green. The more classic box art. The Warthog itself - all of it feels like that original Mega Bloks feeling, just reimagined. It's magnificent.
And on top of that, the set is just built well. Sure, the wheels are a little wide, but other than that, the seg is even beautiful for new collectors to look at. There's something in this set for everyone, except maybe the two people who got their hands on Halo Heroes Series 5.
My point here is that it's not just the build itself that makes Warthog Run special, it's the meaning behind it, and the journey to it. I give this set a perfect ten out of ten.
Classic, Iconic.
Thanks for reading.
