It was a cold and foggy night. We were tasked with launching an invasion against a group of previously ONI scientists. When ONI told the group to stop their experiments and to burn everything down with them, they didn’t obey. Saying they were on the edge of a scientific breakthrough. When ONI didn’t relent, the group allied with local insurgents, shooting dead anyone who got near. After that it was full on war, in the day hundreds of missiles and artillery bombardments flew through the air,at night gun fire lit up the streets of nearby towns setting them ablaze with death. It was carnage, and the 89th was about to wade in. what they were doing in those labs, I do not know. What I do know is that it was so bad, even ONI thought it inhumane. In truth the outcome of our little offensive didn’t really matter, we were just a distraction. The real threat was a strike force of spartans that was deployed shortly after the first shots were fired, but that’s another tale, one that I know nothing of. “I can’t see anything in this pea soup!” Said Catnip as we marched through the fog that night. “Yeah well stop complaining!” Deves replied. “Shh, enemy patrol 100 meters.” I said in a whisper as l pushed my back against what remained of a broken down shed. “Frag?” “All out, sir.” “Flash then.” “Got it,” replied BBQ as he held up a flashbang. “On the count of three. One, two, three!” Bang! “Say hello to your worst nightmare!” Our shots lit up the space in front of us, bright as day, ripping the patrol to shreds. All around us more troops started opening fire as well, the battle had begun.
