When we started working on the Masters of the Universe figures for MCX Heroes, one of our prototypes artists painted and ''flocked'' a Beast Man. The figure was covered with white glue and then rolled around in AstroTurf shavings to simulate the flocking effect. This was created long before it had a home in the Battle Bones set, just as proof of concept. The prototype was used for several different design meetings up until we received actual flocked versions.
It is different in several ways from the produced version. First, the prototype was''flocked'' from head-to-toe. This was not feasible in production for several reasons (primarily because of articulation), so the final version has plastic forearms and lower legs. Also, the prototype is sporting a bandoleer similar the Mattel Classics figure. Since all the figures in the set were inspired by their vintage toys, this was removed. Lastly, the flocking around the face was more precise on the final version.
It is a little worse for wear after almost three years, but it still sits with a few other select figures on my computer.
