After 30 hours of work, 2 rebuilds and multiple failures. It's finally here, the kv-1.
Little bit of insight on the tank. The Kliment Voroshilov tank, better known as the kv-1, was the response to the constant flow of tanks being produced by surrounding countries, the need for a heavier tank was needed because at the time, the soviets were pumping out lighter and less armed fighting vehicles, incapable of being able to withstand enemy fire. When the Germans invaded Russia, they expected a fast, easy and swift capture of the large land. Things were going well for the Germans in the early months, but reports soon came in of some sort of invincible steel beast, capable of withstanding countless rounds from even anti-tank weapons. This is where the kv-1 earned it's nick name "стальная стена" or in English "steel wall".
Quick story on a famous kv-1 tanker.
A famous Russian tanker by the name of Zinoiyviy Kolobanov was credited as being one of greatest ace's on eastern front after him and 4 other kv-1's were ordered to try their best to stop the advancing German vanguard, he managed to take out 22 German tanks and 2 artillery pieces and in total with the tank platoon he commanded, they took out 44 tanks. What was left of the 3 German divisions retreated and a great victory it was. Despite Kolobanov receiving 150 shells, the kv-1 he was in had not been penetrated by any of the German tanks. He was rewarded with the order of the red banner, possibly one of the hardest medals you could be given at the time.
